“True Blood” Based on Charlaine Harris' Southern Vampire books, the series opens with Bon Temps, La., waitress Sookie Stackhouse welcoming the first vampire, Bill, to Merlotte's bar, while her brother, Jason, deals with the unfortunate fallout of a one-night stand. Monday at 8 on HBO.

“Kennedy Center Honors” Mel Brooks, Dave Brubeck, Grace Bumbry, Robert De Niro and Bruce Springsteen are the honorees at the 32nd annual celebration hosted by Caroline Kennedy. Performers and presenters include Meryl Streep; Martin Scorsese; Sting; Matthew Broderick; Aretha Franklin; John Mellencamp; Carl Reiner; Jon Stewart; Jennifer Nettles; Sharon Stone; Ben Stiller; Jack Black; Melissa Etheridge; Ben Harper; Herbie Hancock; Harvey Keitel; Jane Krakowski; Edward Norton; Martin Short; Frank Langella; Eddie Vedder. Tuesday at 9 on CBS.

“A Girl’s Life” Author Rachel Simmons ("Odd Girl Out") examines the modern-day challenges of female adolescence, including body image, cyber-bullying, depression, self-esteem and girl-on-girl violence. The program features the stories of four teen girls and features interviews with parents, psychologists, teachers and social workers about how to help girls mature into resilient adults. Wednesday at 8 on PBS.

“Dick Clark’s Primetime New Year’s Rockin’ Eve With Ryan Seacrest” Dick Clark and Ryan Seacrest host from Times Square in New York City, while Fergie hosts in Las Vegas. A variety of musical guests will take the stage in each location. Thursday at 10 on ABC.

“Outdoor Room With Jamie Durie” Friday at 10 on Home & Garden.

“Demons” The series opens as an ordinary teen (Christian Cooke) learns a shocking family secret: His great-great-grandfather was legendary vampire hunter Abraham Van Helsing. Saturday at 10 on BBC America.

“Desperate Housewives” In the wake of the plane crash, the housewives play "What If...," reflecting on their life choices, and on how other choices might have led to different lives. For Susan it's a life with Karl, and for Bree it's one without Orson; and Lynette thinks about a future with her unborn twins. Meanwhile, Carlos imagines Gaby as an overprotective mom; and Angie ponders what could happen if her secrets were revealed. Sunday at 9 on ABC.
